Solving 42°C Thermal Shutdowns in an Agricultural Shed

Operator: Lachlan Mitchell, Dairy Farm & Cold Storage Manager

Challenge: During the January 2026 heatwave, four Antminer S19 units installed in an uninsulated machinery shed experienced continuous thermal runaway, shutting down automatically as PCB sensors hit 88°C.

Workshop Experience: Lachlan attended our 2-day ASIC Hardware Masterclass in Dawson. He learned how to calculate exact CFM airflow dynamics, constructed a sealed hot-aisle exhaust plenum with backdraft dampers, and replaced the degraded factory thermal paste on twelve hashboards.

Outcome: By eliminating hot air recirculation and under-volting the machines using custom firmware profiles, the units maintained continuous operation through February with maximum PCB temperatures remaining below 76°C.

Capturing 30kW of Curtailment with Dynamic Telemetry Scripts

Operator: Sarah Thornton, Renewable Solar Specialist

Challenge: A 30kW rooftop solar installation on a rural workshop faced strict zero-export grid limitations, causing the Fronius inverter to curtail up to 140 kWh of clean solar electricity per day.

Workshop Experience: Sarah enrolled in our Solar PV & Off-Grid Mining Integration Workshop. In our Dawson lab, she learned how to parse Modbus TCP inverter packets using a local controller and step ASIC power consumption in 100W increments.

Outcome: Implemented automated power scaling across three Whatsminer units, turning previously wasted solar energy into productive computational work without triggering inverter over-voltage faults.

Workshop Attendee Testimonials

“We had four Antminer S19 units shutting down every afternoon when our dairy shed hit 36 degrees. Elena and Marcus walked us through the exact CFM calculations and showed us how to rebuild our hot-aisle baffle. The teardown lab gave me the confidence to re-paste hashboards myself instead of shipping them overseas for basic maintenance. The weekend pace was fast and very dense with electrical code, but the printed reference manuals have been on my workbench ever since.”
Lachlan Mitchell Agricultural Operations Manager Gippsland, VIC • ASIC Rig Assembly, Diagnostics & Operations Masterclass (April 2026)
“Learning how to interface our 30kW ground-mounted solar inverter with dynamic frequency scaling scripts saved our summer operation. We were previously tripping breakers due to sudden cloud cover drop-offs. David Chen explained the Modbus telemetry polling step by step on their Dawson test rig.”
Sarah Thornton Off-Grid Solar Installer & Hardware Hobbyist Bendigo, VIC • Solar PV & Off-Grid Mining Integration Workshop (June 2026)
“The oscilloscope hands-on time was exactly what I needed to understand domain voltage step-downs on Whatsminer M30s boards. Probing live test points with Rigol scopes and finding open circuits on the 1.8V LDO line demystified what used to look like random hardware faults. Make sure you brush up on basic SMD soldering before attending as the precision micro-work requires steady hands.”
Tomislav Horvat Independent Electronics Repairer Melbourne, VIC • Advanced Hashboard Component Diagnostic Lab (July 2026)
“Logic Bridge Hub delivered a 28-page thermal blueprint that caught an 18% phase unbalance on our 415V subpanel before our local distribution network could issue a penalty. Their ventilation duct specifications dropped our intake delta from 14°C down to 4°C above outdoor ambient.”
